American Popular Music. Developed for the General Education (now Integrative Learning Core) curriculum at LSU, this course is the first devoted to popular music to be offered at the university. I was the sole instructor for the course’s first five years, during which time I received a University College Undergraduate Teaching Award after being nominated by the course’s students. As of 2026, American Popular Music has been taught continually for over a decade to thousands of students.
